Cambridge United shines on World Mental Health Day

Cambridge United Honours Syd Barrett with Special-Edition Fourth Shirt

As part of our celebrations marking what would have been Syd Barrett’s 80th birthday, we’re delighted to highlight a wonderful tribute from Syd’s hometown club, Cambridge United.

The U’s have unveiled a special-edition Fourth Shirt for the 2026/27 season, inspired by the life, creativity and enduring legacy of Cambridge icon Syd Barrett. Created in collaboration with the Barrett Estate, the shirt will be worn during Cambridge United’s fixture against Blackpool on Saturday 10 October, coinciding with World Mental Health Day.

The initiative not only celebrates Syd’s remarkable cultural impact but also helps raise awareness of mental health issues. We are especially grateful that a proportion of replica shirt sales, together with proceeds from the auction of the match-worn shirts following the game, will support mental health work and related charitable causes.

Please visit the Cambridge United website to watch the wonderful promotional video and have the opportunity to purchase the commemorative shirt.
